For years, I've driven from Manhattan to South Jersey down the NJ Turnpike. As one passes the Meadowlands area one sees beautiful expanses of the Garden State, riddled with the signs of human presence and industry. After years of driving past without stopping I decided to start in the nearby town of Elizabeth (see that project here).
Finally, one day I located the scenic area on the map and started photographing from the many parks and wildlife preserves that dot the landscape as well as Elizabeth, with its River and the Arthur Kill estuary. These pictures featured in the Mother and Son exhibit at Contra Studios in October 2019.
